Rest Benches on the Greenway

Make the greenway in town (from Seacliff to Heritage) more accessible for seniors and those with physical impairments.

Status: Blocked – Awaiting ERCA approval since July 21

Issue: Seniors and mobility-impaired individuals avoid the greenway due to insufficient rest areas.

Obstacle: Town resists benches, citing concerns about homelessness.

Solution: Install simple wooden chairs or boxes (e.g., repurposed pallets) for resting.

Next Step: Secure permission from ERCA, which maintains the greenway.

Funding: Open to funding from local businesses, grants, and materials donated by sponsors.

Implementation details

To best accommodate the needs of these users, we would aim for 16 chairs–one every 150m to cover the 2500m span. This is based on accessibility guide recommendations.

We are considering building chairs from repurposed pallets, like the one shown above.

We would ensure that the materials do not contain chemicals that could be harmful to humans, animals, or the natural environment.
