It’s nearly impossible for new small businesses to afford commercial space in Kingsville. Our many vacant storefronts prove it. This is holding back the development of our local economy and job creation.
Status: In Progress – gathering community feedback via survey.
Issue: Early-stage entrepreneurs face high commercial rent and long lease terms.
Obstacle: Cost-prohibitive retail/office spaces.
Solution: Create a grassroots incubator (eg. Grow DeSoto) with low-rent, month-to-month leases downtown to boost foot traffic.
Next Step: Identify space for part-time operation, expanding as demand grows, ideally repurposing a vacant school or commercial building.
Funding: 100% internal until funded by user rentals, sponsors, fundraisers, grants, economic development funds.
